MIOB Editorial - Collaborating across Europe
MIOB is a network of several European film festivals. Together, we promote cultural exchange, support emerging voices, and celebrate the richness of European cinema. With this first editorial, we take a moment to reflect on the meaning of collaboration across Europe.
Trieste Film Festival - Italy
"One of the main objectives of the MIOB network is to foster cultural exchange and dialogue through the universal language of film, strengthening the multicultural identity and the international dimension of its work group. We cooperate and create synergies with each other, sharing the same values and same perspectives on promoting European arthouse cinema and sustainability, and common strategies as a European network. Our task is to make cultural diversity known through a very powerful tool: cinema! When we meet at international festivals and markets we realise our relationship is not just professional, but also very human.
And let's be honest: it looks much better live than on zoom!"
Crossing Europe - Austria
"There’s something very special about the collaboration and exchange with our festival colleagues in the MIOB network. The chance to visit and discuss with other festivals means being able to see and learn how colleagues curate, celebrate, and bring cinema to life in their cities. Each collaboration is a new chance to discover different ways of thinking about films and audiences, and to return home full of ideas. Through MIOB, we’ve built a network across languages, borders, and festival cultures – it’s an ongoing exchange that keeps us inspired and open and that we really appreciate in our day-to-day activities."
Les Arcs Film Festival - France
"Meeting online every two weeks, at each other’s festivals and in other festivals when we can and having our annual meeting somewhere in Europe makes a fruitful, constructive, intelligent and happy little group of film festival representatives. The fact that we have the theme of Europe in commun but in different geographical areas with different sizes and local issues makes us open our mind, understand, debate, create with a wider perspective. We discuss about our projects, improve them, but not only, we talk about films, cinema, political situations, festival life… It’s a group of friends with common values and different points of view."
FilmFestival Cottbus - Germany
"From February 10 to 13, 2025, our annual meeting took place in Cottbus.
Meeting in person once a year allows us to discuss our goals and projects through genuine communication, direct collaboration, and a spirit of mutual trust. We had the opportunity to reflect on our results together, develop new ideas, and engage in meaningful exchange as film festivals – sharing approaches, experiences, and working methods. The meeting helped strengthen our network and reminded us how important collaboration is within the European film festival scene."
